Common Plumbing Issues To Watch Out For

Garbage Disposal CareWith summer right around the corner now, many homeowners are taking the time to finish getting things in order around the house and preparing for all of the fun that summer brings. With that being said, there are a number of things around the house that are likely going to require your attention at some point or another, and while plumbing issues might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of summer, there are several issues that tend to become more common during the summer months than at other times of year, making it very important to keep an eye out for their warning signs over the coming months. In an effort to help you keep your home in the best condition possible this summer, our team of skilled plumbing professionals have taken the time to put together this short list identifying some of these common plumbing issues and what you can do to prevent them in the upcoming season. If you you find yourself facing any of these issues, feel free to pick up the phone and give our team of experts a call so we can come out and repair them in no time at all.

Clogged Disposals

Summertime is when many homeowners decide to break out the grill and cook up something tasty for family and friends, and if you are one of them, one important issue to be on the lookout for this summer is a clogged disposal. During cookouts and other large gatherings, there is always bound to be at least one person who isn’t on the same page as to what can and can’t be put down the disposal safely, and with so many common cookout foods containing elements that can lead to very nasty disposal clogs, this can be a serious issue. Highly fibrous food items, like corn husks and fruit rinds, as well as used cooking oils, fats, and especially bone, can all lead to very serious clogs in your disposal, and some can even wind up causing damage to the mechanism as well. To guard against clogs this summer, make sure that everyone helping you in the kitchen understands what is safe to put down there, and what isn’t.

Sewer Line Backups

Depending on how wet the area around your home gets, sewer line backups can be either a relatively common issue, or one that you don’t have to concern yourself with frequently. During the summer months, sewer line backups become more common for a couple of different reasons. Between the rain and growing tree roots, it is very easy for extra water to get inside your sewer lines, and if it becomes blocked, or too much of it finds its way in, you could find yourself with water coming back up into the drains throughout your home. If you notice this, make the call to a professional plumber you trust right away, as store bought drain cleaners aren’t going to provide you with the power you need to solve the issue.

Clogged Toilets

Now that the kids are out of school and they and their friends are hanging out more at the house, it means your toilets are going to be seeing more frequent use during the day, and while the extra flushing can have a noticeable impact on your water bill, clogged toilets are the more significant issue that we tend to encounter. One of the best ways to prevent these clogs is to get on the same page with your kids and their friends about how much toilet paper is a responsible amount to use before flushing, and what things are safe to flush, and which ones aren’t. Ensuring that paper towels, disposable wipes, and feminine hygiene products, among other things, aren’t getting flushed down your drain can go a long way in warding off clogs.
